Daily Dimes - Thursday, February 20th & 21st

FRIDAY
Rio Rancho (14-11) at Cleveland (22-3)
Atrisco Heritage (17-6) at Volcano Vista (17-6)

District Standings (District 1 - Metro West)
Atrisco Heritage (5-2)
Cleveland (4-3)
Rio Rancho (4-3)
Volcano Vista (3-4)
Cibola (2-6)

Scoop: So much to view in this district. Atrisco win could sew up the regular season championship. A loss could force a tie breaker playoff game for 1st. Volcano Vista has dropped, a loss will have them finishing in 4th - cold take (when we got called out for a potential 6-seed, well, you were sort of right because they could now be 7 or higher although you meant they would have a better seed). Rio Rancho has a big shot at moving into the top-8 seeds or better). So much to watch this Friday in this district.

Daily Dimes - Tuesday, February 18th

5A
Onate (21-4) vs Gadsden (13-11): Gadsden needs a win after dropping a "bad" loss last week. Onate, with the win over Las Cruces, is the best of the forgotten favorites.

West Mesa (11-11) at Eldorado (19-4): West Mesa is maybe the most inconsistent team that is still fighting for a playoff bid, but if they get in could be dangerous. Eldorado has suffered some interesting losses lately.

Alamogordo (14-10) at Las Cruces (22-2): Las Cruces still considered a favorite for the 1-seed and Alamogordo a handful of the bubbles teams fighting to get in.

4A
Portales (10-14) at Artesia (16-8): Portales has jumped back into the IN group and an upset over district leading Artesia would help solidify the IN.

Del Norte (13-9) at Highland (11-10): This district is the best. Could have four teams get a top-8 seed. Highland needing the win more than any other; possibility of being under .500 by the end of the week, so a big week is needed.

Hope Christian (14-10) at Valley (16-6): Hope and Valley could play for the state championship. They could also meet a couple more times in the next two weeks.

Lovington (12-11) at Goddard (10-14): Is this the play-in game?

Shout out to Zerek Saenz from Mayfield

Graduated from Mayfield in 2018, went to Eastern Arizona and was one of the top hitters in the ACCAC as a freshman. NMSU signs him after one year at EAC and then yesterday on opening day as a sophomore, he starts in left field for the Aggies and goes 3-4 in his first D1 game in the leadoff spot.

Saenz is quite small, but extremely fast and obviously has a great bat. Incredibly fast rise for a local kid who didn’t get tons of attention in HS. Congrats to Zerek!

Daily dimes - February 12th

Bosque (17-3) at Cuba (10-11)
Cibola (9-12) at Volcano Vista (16-5)
Miyamura (6-16) at Gallup (17-5)
Moriarty (7-14) at Espanola Valley (14-8)
Rio Rancho (11-11) at Atrisco Heritage (15-6)
Tularosa (14-6) at NMMI (11-5)

Scoop: Bosque and Cuba has some affect to the 3A bracket watch. Cuba upset the Bobcats in the first game, the Bobcats need a win on the rebound.

5A Talk: Rio Rancho at Atrisco Heritage. The Rams are sitting in fourth in district play and Atrisco Heritage in first, with a perfect district run. Trap game? Line is Atrisco (-6), they won the first game 49-46 (OT) in Rio Rancho on January 24th.

More Small School Hoops: Tularosa and NMMI could be battle for a seat in March - top 8 seat - and this one could be used in the criteria debate.
