The team that upset them in the semifinals - Robertson, their opponent again this weekend. First-year quarterback Collin Evans (2020) has passed for over 2,000 yards this season with 27-touchdowns and given the Huskies a spark. Look for Collins be the focus to the success for the Huskies moving the ball in the semifinals.

6A Semifinal: Volcano Vista vs Rio Rancho

Taking the line?

  • Volcano Vista -4.5

  • Rio Rancho +4.5

Results are only viewable after voting.

1) VOLCANO VISTA HAWKS
Record: 11-0, 5-0 district
Head Coach: Chad Wallin

4) RIO RANCHO RAMS
Record: 7-4 overall, 3-2 district
Head coach: David Howes

Preview: Diego Pavia (VV) and Isaiah Chavez (RR) bring us a match-up between two of the top quarterbacks that have shown the ability to go through the air or get into the end zone on the ground.

Prediction: Volcano Vista 44, 40
Grine Line: VV -4.5

Why RR: They have an offense that can put points on the scoreboard in a hurry. Chavez has near 1,800 yards passing and 34 total touchdowns on the year but sophomore running back Zach Vigil is showing signs of the next great running back for the Rams, he is coming off a 122-yard performance against Las Cruces last week.

Why VV: On this end it is Isaac Chavez providing the punch at RB as he has over 1,100 yards rushing on the season and 12 touchdowns. The Hawks defensive front is something to reckon with as well for the Hawks.

Player Rankings Prospect Watch: Quarterbacks to Watch in the Semifinals

Prospect Watch: Quarterbacks to Watch in the Semifinals

Diego Pavia
Volcano Vista High School (2020)
Stat Line: 1,239 passing yards and 11 touchdowns.
Note: Pavia is the real deal. He has battled some injuries but this young fella could make any squad go.

Isaiah Chavez
Rio Rancho High School (2020)
Stat Line; 1,699 passing yards and 20 touchdowns.
Note: Chavez is the workhorse that we knew would be good but has played great down the stretch.

Mason Caperton
Eunice High School (2020)
Stat Line: 3,131 passing yards and 45 touchdown passes.
Note: Caperton, and the Eunice Cardinals are looking at a three peat this weekend in the 2A state championship.

Chance Harris
Clovis High School (2021)
Stat Line: 2,051 passing yards and 21 touchdown passes.
Note: We liked what we seen this summer at the combine and Harris has backed it up all season long. Top junior in the state.

Casey Perez
Lovington High School (2020)
Stat Line: 2,485 passing yards and 28 touchdowns.
Note: A decorated career, Perez is one of the best regardless of classification and this weekend could be the game we remember.

Kade Benavidez
Los Lunas High School (2020)
Stat Line: 1,763 passing yards and 19 touchdowns.
Note: Benavidez is as smooth as butter and could lead the Tigers back into the playoffs.

Payson Hicks
Socorro High School (2020)
Stat Line: 1,657 passing yards and 18 touchdowns.
Note: The Socorro Warriors have been hacking at the hill and this season they have appeared to make way at getting over the hill, Hicks is a huge part to that success.

Baylor Diaz
Portales High School (2020)
Stat Line: 1,132 passing yards and 15 touchdowns.
Note: Diaz can make plays, and at this stage in the playoffs you need playmakers.

Jeff Davison
Cleveland High School (2021)
Stat Line: 1,169 passing yards and 12 touchdowns.
Note: Davison has weapons and has been able to connect and key times. He will have to grow quickly in the semifinals.

Vincent Marquez
Bloomfield High School (2020)
Stat Line: 2,893 passing yards and 37 touchdown passes.
Note: Marquez took the reigns this season and is in the top 5 for total passing yards in 2019.

Brandon Furbee
Grants High School (2022)
Stat Line: 1,264 passing yards and 17 touchdowns.
Note: The youngin' on the radar and he has progressed nicely since last season. A name to remember for the years to come, great size and upside.

Collin Evans
Hope Christian School (2020)
Stat line: 1,889 passing yards and 22 touchdowns.
Note: Little mentioned but has guide the Huskies to another eye popping season. He has nearly 2,000 yards on the year.

Traiton Griffin
Tularosa High School (2020)
Stat Line: 866 passing yards and 9 touchdowns.
Note: Griffin does it all for the Wildcats, both in the air and on the ground. An ATH with the chance at an upset.

*Note. We have QBs listed with stat lines that we have on them. Continue to send to grinejosh@yahoo.com, thanks!
