Preview: The Roswell Coyotes have been perfect for 16-straight games and looking to defend their title this post season. Roswell is flooded with talent and look for the likes of Joel Sanchez (2020), Jasia Reese (2020) and company to continue doing what they have done all season - get into the end zone (near 50 points per game).

Preview: The Wildcats have talent, we knew that coming into the season, and they have hit a good stride down the stretch winning 8-straight to get to this point. A younger squad that will return plenty next season but have a great core ATH Jesse Varela (2020) who can do it all for the Cats has played well and is looking to make a statement here in this one.

Scoop: The Rams, the preseason favorite, are in position to move into the state championship game with a win over district mate Lovington. The Rams have to hit the road in the first game but hope the results remain the same, the first game in Portales was a 35-13 win for the Rams. What Portales brings is the most talented defense in 4A football with Isiah Saiz (2020), Philip Blidi (2020), and Romeo Gbassagee (2020) - a very senior led defense that creates issues for any team.

NO. 3 LOVINGTON WILDCATS

How they got here: The Wildcats have faced a difficult schedule and like most coaches would say, it has prepared them for the playoffs. They also get to host the game as the higher seed in the contest and are looking to get more production out of that high powered offense this time around. You have to love having a dynamic quarterback like Casey Perez (2020) under center, who has passed for 2,485-yards and another 1,052-rushing yards this season. He also has an impressive 50 total touchdowns (28 passing) on the season.

All teams not selected for the Open championship will play to win their conference championship. Example 6A conference champion, 5A conference champion and 4A conference champion. The duo of Vincent Marquez (QB/2020) and Nick Gurule (2020/WR) has led to over 1,000-yards of receiving and eight touchdowns on the year; Marquez has passed for 2,893-yards and 37 touchdowns on the season. The Bobcats are looking to return to the state championship, a game that they lost in last season.

Scoop: 2020 running back Isaiah Johnson makes this team go, he's over 2,000-yards rushing on the season with 30-touchdowns. This is the first time in over 20-years (maybe longer) that the Pirates have reached the semifinals. Two high scoring teams will square off come this Saturday.

This rematch brings the intrigue factor to it and maybe the top pick, for those going upset, of the 1-seeds in the semifinals.

Top Pick: Tularosa (5) over Socorro (1) - 3A: Not an easy week to rank the nine games taking place this week. We could either see a handful of higher seeds come out with a win and we wouldn't be surprised. We decided on this game because it features a Tularosa team that was ranked number one for several weeks before a late season loss dropped them out. Also, we have to note that the Wildcats of Tularosa own the regular season meeting between the two, a 9-7 game on August 30th. Both have grown since. If it doesn't end in an upset, it will be a very close game. Also, features two quarterbacks that could take home player of the year for 3A football in Payson Hicks (QB/Socorro) and Traiton Griffin (QB/Tularosa).

6A Parity: Yes, we have both of the 6A games in the 2 and 3 slots in our ranking of the most likely to upset this week. However, it is not so much that we think the 1 and 2 seeds can lose but the separation between the top four teams in the class are that close. Clovis is HOT right now, so we put them behind the other contest. Rio Rancho could be directly behind Clovis on the HOT right now but Volcano Vista has continued to answer any question on their perfect season (11-0).

Undefeated: 6A Volcano Vista (11-0), 5A Roswell (11-0), and 4A Bloomfield (11-0). Roswell appears to have the most separation and likely ready to move into their second title game. Bloomfield takes on a newcomer this late in the season in Grants in a battle in the NW region. Bloomfield looks to return to the title game, a game that they lose in last season.
