MUST-SEE GAMES

(Sat). Volcano Vista vs Rio Rancho: For the second week in a row the Volcano Vista Hawks are playing in a 1v 2 contest. This game also gives us an opportunity to see electric quarterbacks Isaiah Chavez (RR) and Diego Pavia (VV) square off. Prediction: Volcano Vista 44, Rio Rancho 42

Las Cruces vs Carlsbad: Down south we have another top-20 game between host Las Cruces and Carlsbad. The Bulldawgs, ranked 5th, are in the sleeper conversation and are in the drivers seat to win district. Prediction: Las Cruces 28, Carlsbad 12.

Goddard vs Artesia: Artesia and Goddard are in the next best contenders conversation and either could take a step closer to being seeded on the opposite side of defending champ Roswell for the 5A playoffs. Prediction: Artesia 38, Goddard 28.

Bloomfield vs Kirtland Central: The best game in 4A football this week and the unofficial district championship game. The Bobcats at a perfect 8-0 haven't missed a beat since playoff for the state championship last season. Prediction: Bloomfield 33, Kirtland Central 24.

PLAYOFF TALK

Lovington vs Ruidoso: Both teams are vying for a top-8 seed and Lovington, one of only three teams ranked from 4A, could be in the debate for a 1, 2, 3 seed. Could have big playoff implications - also keeping an eye KC-Bloomfield.

Santa Teresa at Silver: This contest between unranked, district opponents, has playoff implications for the 5A and 4A playoffs. A Santa Teresa loss here could potentially bust the bubble, Silver looking to get into the top-8 and host a playoff game this season.

Hatch Valley at Cobre: The Hatch Valley Bears are looking to snap a seven game losing streak and get back into the playoff conversation.

Streaming games live

As a fan of NM high school football, I love to listen to broadcasts from different radio stations around and of course watch TV broadcasts when I can. On any given Thursday, Friday or Saturday night you can catch a game or 2. These are the streams I know of but would like to know what others there are so we can keep up with the sport we all love. Please list any you know of and where we can find them.

Gone: Aztec (No. 19). The Tigers previewed in our revamped NMPreps Top-20 rankings for week 9 but got shutout by unranked Kirtland Central, 31-0. Not a bad loss but a loss is a loss and the Tigers are out - Kirtland Central has been on the rise though.

New: Lovington (No. 20). Taking the final spot in the rankings this week, receiving four of six votes for this spot, is the Wildcats after beating Moriarty 56-14. The Wildcats are 5-3 on the season, all three losses to teams ranked 13 or higher, and they had a shootout with both Artesia (No. 13) and Roswell (No. 6).

Week 10 Playoff Projections

6A FOOTBALL (WEEK 10 - OCTOBER 23rd)
#1 Volcano Vista (Bid: Automatic; Projected District Finish: 1st) - UP (LW 5)
#2 Clovis (Bid: Automatic; Projected District Finish: 1st) - UP (LW 6)
#3 La Cueva (Bid: At-Large; Projected District Finish: 2nd) - UP (LW 7)
#4 Las Cruces (Bid: Automatic; Projected District Finish: 1st) - DOWN (LW 3)
#5 Centennial (Bid: At-Large; Projected District Finish: 2nd) - DOWN (LW 4)
#6 Cleveland (Bid: At Large; Projected District Finish: 2nd) - DOWN (LW 1)
#7 Rio Rancho (Bid: At-Large; Projected District Finish: 3rd) - DOWN LW (2)
#8 Mayfield (Bid: At-Large; Projected District Finish: 3rd)
#9 Eldorado (Bid: At-Large; Projected District Finish: 3rd)
#10 Carlsbad (Bid: At-Large; Projected District Finish: 4th)
#11 Cibola (Bid: At-Large; Projected District Finish: 4th)
#12 Sandia (Bid: At-Large; Projected District Finish: 4th) - UP (LW OUT)

Scoop: We made a lot of shifts this week. Also, keep in mind because several of you blend it but our rankings are not our playoff projections. One is a what have you done, the other is based on criteria and predictions on how the season will finish.

Volcano Vista is undefeated and with the crushing win over Cleveland last week (35-7) they move as the 1-seed, after we made the mistake as projecting them to finish third in district.

The fun part is that we could have another shift the as we close out the regular season the next two weeks. Keep an eye on Clovis-La Cueva for a DC, Las Cruces can't lose the rivalry game in week 11 to Mayfield. Rio Rancho could make it interesting and move back into the top four with a win over their rival Cleveland. 8-12 could look that way from here on out unless we see an upset to Eldorado from Manzano (this week) or Sandia (next week).

4A FOOTBALL (OCTOBER 24TH)
#1 Portales (Record: 7-1; Bid: Auto; Projected District Finish: 1st)
#2 Bloomfield (Record: 8-0; Bid: Auto; Projected District Finish: 1st)
#3 Lovington (Record: 5-3; Bid: At-Large; Projected District Finish: 2nd)
#4 Kirtland Central (Record: 4-3; Bid: At-Large; Projected District Finish: 2nd)
#5 Grants (Record: 7-1; Bid: Auto; Projected District Finish: 1st)
#6 Aztec (Record: 6-2; Bid: At-Large; Projected District Finish: 3rd)
#7 Ruidoso (Record: 3-5; Bid: At-Large; Projected District Finish: 3rd)
#8 Taos (Record: 4-4; Bid: At-Large; Projected District Finish: 2nd)
#9 St. Pius X (Record: 3-5: Bid: At-Large: Projected District Finish: 3rd)
#10 Silver (Record: 5-3; Bid: At-Large; Projected District Finish: 3rd)
#11 Bernalillo (Record: 6-2; Bid: At-Large: Projected District Finish: 4th)
#12 Moriarty (Record: 2-6; Bid: At-Large; Projected District Finish: 4th)

Projected District Champs: We only have three districts in 4A football, the favorites to win their district at Portales, Bloomfield and Grants.

Movement: Taos moved into the possible hosting a first round game with a win over St. Pius X last week, putting the Tigers into second place.

Locks: Piedra Vista, Mayfield and Las Cruces. I don't see any of the three losing this week. If you need all of the points that you need, then take these three.

Possible Point Grab: Lordsburg, St. Mikes. I didn't pick them but I really wanted too take both. I didn't but not bad grabs if you're looking for points.

Big Time: Volcano Vista with the big flex last week. I truly wanted to go Rio Rancho this week but decided this week to stay with the favorites.

Pick 'Em Standings & Playoffs: I earned my highest rank (3rd Place) in a few years. I was down a couple years. Reminder that we will crown a overall standings champ and tournament champ.

Recruiting News JB White - 2021 - Santa Fe High School

247 Sports recently ranked Santa Fe Demon Fedonta "JB" White as the 49th overall prospect in the nation for the class of 2021. June Bug holds offers from UNM and Utah, with Washington and Oregon heavily interested. I expect at least 5 more HM offers coming at the April 26-28 Evaluation Period where JB will be playing in Dallas with Dante Exum Elite in the Adidas Gauntlet Series.
