OUTSIDE THE TOP-20

5A: Highland (5-4) at Miyamura (2-8): Highland has had a program reviving season and could clinch their playoff birth with a win here over Miyamura. The Partiots look to spoil their special season and battle through their own adversity season. Keep an eye on the north district with Santa Fe (4-5) going crosstown to Capital (5-3), Capital is going for the DC. Santa Fe fighting for their post season with this game. Del Norte (3-6) will host Los Alamos (3-6), a win gets them closer to a playoff bid also but may need some more magic to happen.

4A/5A: Deming (7-2) at Silver (5-4): The odd district could crown Deming as the DC and likely earn them a home game in the opening round of the playoffs (5A). Silver could force a three-way tie for the DC with a win.

4A: St. Pius X (4-5) at Grants (8-1): Grants could win their first DC in over 15-years; Pius win could force a three-way tie for DC, if Taos takes care of business with Bernalillo.

3A: Tucumcari (1-8) at NMMI (5-4); Hot Springs (4-5) at Hatch Valley (1-8): Intriguing happenings in 3A football with these two games. Both road teams are OUT in the latest playoff projections, a win for either will put them IN. Also, Cobre (4-4) travels to Socorro (8-1) for the district championship. Top-ranked team in 3A Tularosa (7-1) will take on the defending state champ Dexter (7-2) for the district championship.

Grine

Today, we preview the 2019 New Mexico high school football state playoffs. Continue to follow along as we give picks, predictions, and top players for each classification during the 2019 post season.

PREVIEW

No. 5 Estancia Bears (7-3) vs No. 12 Loving Falcons (2-8)
Details: 1pm, Estancia High School (Saturday)
Scoop: The Estancia Bears enter the post season as one of the season-long favorites to each the final game. After a season ending district championship loss the Bears are looking to bring their 37 point per game offense and make a first round rebound. Leading the Bears this season is senior running back Andrew Lujan; he's rushed for 1,462-yards and 17-touchdowns this season. The Loving Falcons, win-less in October, have not won a game since September 13th over Mescalero Apache. The Falcons are heavy underdogs in the contest but looking to Dylan Green (2022/RB) and a team built for the future to gain some experience.
Prediction: Estancia 56, Loving 6
Grine Line: Estancia -45
Over/Under: 52

No. 6 Newcomb Skyhawks (7-3) vs No. 11 Capitan Tigers (3-6)
Details: 1pm, Newcomb High School (Saturday)
Scoop: The Newcomb Skyhawks enter the post season after winning their district championship and winners of four of their last five games. They bring in their brother duo in Deontay Begay (2020/RB) and Deondre Begay (2020/QB) as they look to win another post season game; they won last season in the first round. Deondre Begay has passed for 1,664 yards and rushed for another 550 this season. Capitan comes into the post season after winning their final game of the season and looking to make a splash after a strong October play. Keep an eye on Casey McCarty (2020/RB) in the backfield to find some holes but it will be his leadership on defense (94-total tackles) to help in this possible upset alert game.
Prediction: Newcomb 31, Capitan 18
Grine Line: Newcomb -6.5
Over/Under: 46

No. 7 Hagerman Bobcats (5-3) vs No. 10 Jal Panthers (3-6)
Details: 2pm, Hagerman High School (Saturday)
Scoop: The two teams met one week ago in Hagerman and we run it back for the sequel. Hagerman won 33-14, earning them the first round home game and looking to make it two in a row. The Bobcats have played a tough schedule to this point in the season and hoping that it has prepared them for a run in the post season. The Jal Panthers have also played a strong schedule and will be ready to make a splash this post season. Jr Ibarra (2020) passed for over 100-yards last week and will need another big game.
Prediction: Hagerman 30, Jal 19
Grine Line: Hagerman -8
Over/Under: 41

No. 8 Escalante Lobos (4-6) vs No. 9 Santa Rosa Lions (3-6)
Details: 2pm, Escalante High School (Saturday)
Scoop: The most intriguing contest in the opening round takes place between the 8-9 seeds. Escalante has the higher seed but the Santa Rosa Lions enter the contest as the favorite. Both teams feature a solid history in football, Santa Rosa reached the state championship last season. The Lions bring Elijah Velasquez (2021/RB) into the contest who has rushed for 1,162-yards this season.

NFL

Did anybody watch the Patriots/Browns game?
Don’t know if ive ever seen a bigger disaster at the head coaching position. Maybe in YAFL but it’s a close call.
Feel bad for the fans in Cleveland. Supposed to be the new Lakers of the NBA calling it showtime and stuff. They almost got it right if they had just called it SH!TSHOW! time.
