MONDAY, APRIL 29TH

Chaparral 7, Silver 3 - Final (4A):
Chaparral capitalized on two significant innings, scoring 3 runs in both the bottom of the 1st and the bottom of the 6th, paving the way for a 7-3 district victory over Silver. Chris Torres Jr. (2025) delivered an outstanding performance with 4 hits, 2 runs, 3 RBIs, including a crucial triple and a powerful home run. Sophomore Israel Nieto contributed to the Chaparral Lobos' win with 2 hits, 2 RBIs, and a run. Both players showcased their speed with 2 stolen bases each. Senior Luis Ramos played a crucial role on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings and recording an impressive 9 strikeouts to secure the victory.

Deming 8, Santa Teresa 7 - Final (4A): Santa Teresa stormed ahead with early runs, leading 4-0 after two innings. Despite Santa Teresa's initial dominance, Deming clawed their way back into the game, scoring consistently to narrow the gap. In a tense matchup that stretched into extra innings, Deming secured the win with a decisive run in the bottom of the 8th inning. Senior Braelon Jeter made significant contributions both at the plate and on the mound, adding a hit, 2 RBIs, and a double to his name. Jeter also excelled as a pitcher, tallying 6 strikeouts over 4 innings pitched.

TUESDAY, APRIL 30TH
Albuquerque Academy 6, Bernalillo 4 - Final:
Albuquerque Academy Secures District 6-4A Title with a 6-4 Victory. In a crucial matchup on Tuesday night, the Albuquerque Academy Chargers clinched the District 6-4A championship with a hard-fought win over the Bernalillo Spartans on the road. Junior Alan Ruiz emerged as a standout player for the Bears, contributing significantly with 3 hits, a run, an RBI, and a double. Additionally, Ruiz showcased his versatility by pitching 5 solid innings, tallying 3 strikeouts to clinch the win. Sophomore Juan Ruiz made his presence felt with 3 RBIs, a hit, and a run, while junior Franklin Williams added to the offensive onslaught with 2 RBIs, a triple, a hit, and a run.

Rehoboth Christian 17, Navajo Pine 1 - Final: Rehoboth Christian Dominates Navajo Pine with 17-1 Victory. Four players stood out with stellar offensive contributions, each earning three hits: Raeden West (2024), Trajen West (2026), Jonathan Zylstra (2026), and Jude Christensen (2026). Senior Ryan Alsup led the charge with 3 hits, contributing an RBI and run, while fellow senior Garrett Langley added 2 hits to the offensive effort. Ross Stokes also chipped in with a hit and 2 runs. On the mound, senior Tyler Conrad showcased his pitching prowess, going the distance with 4 strikeouts over 7 innings. For Artesia, junior Frankie Galindo recorded a hit and run, while sophomore Jack Byers impressed with a solid 5 innings pitched, tallying 5 strikeouts.

Senior Gabriel Heredia and sophomore Gavin Garcia led the offensive charge, each tallying 3 hits. Garcia also contributed 3 RBIs and a triple, while Heredia added 2 runs to the team's impressive display. In addition to his offensive prowess, Heredia showcased his pitching skills, lasting 5.2 innings on the mound and finishing with 4 strikeouts.

St. Michael's 6, Santa Fe Indian 5 - Final: In a crucial matchup to determine the District 2-3A champion, the St. Michael's Horsemen faced off against the Santa Fe Indian Braves in a doubleheader. After a narrow 7-6 loss in the first game, the Horsemen rallied in the second game to secure a 6-5 victory, clinching the district title. Jackson Heath, Sabiani Rios, and Michael Giesler led the offensive charge for St. Michael's, each contributing 2 hits. Giesler crossed the plate twice, while Rios notched a double, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs. On the mound, Lucas Stoll delivered a solid performance, pitching 6 innings and recording 7 strikeouts. NMPreps Weekly Top Player Performances spotlighting players from across every region in New Mexico for the 2024 high school baseball season. This covers Week 9, spanning from April 22nd to April 27th.

MONDAY, APRIL 22ND

Cimarron 7, Grady 6 - Final:
Sophomore Ethan Thompson contributed 1 hit and 1 RBI, while freshman Andrew Gonzales added 1 hit, 1 run, and a double in the Rams' victory. Sophomore Urijah Martinez tallied 4 strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched. On the Grady Bronchos' side, junior Jayce Garrett finished with 3 hits and 3 RBIs in the loss.

Elida 13, Dora 10 - Final: Freshman Bradley Burns contributed 3 hits, 2 RBIs, and 1 run in the win, while fellow freshman Coda Cathey added 2 hits, 3 runs, and 2 RBIs. Junior James Dobbins chipped in with 2 hits and 3 RBIs for the Elida Tigers in the victory. For Dora, junior Aaron Combs finished with 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, and a double in the loss for the Coyotes.

Gateway Christian 26, Floyd 3 - Final: Junior Ethaniel Wigley led the hit parade for the Gateway Christian Warriors, tallying 3 hits, 5 runs, 2 RBIs, a double, and a home run. Freshman Grady Munson contributed a home run, 2 hits, 4 runs, and an RBI, while junior Rayford Fulkerson added 4 RBIs, 2 hits, 3 runs, a double, and a triple. Eighth grader Cohen Bolin struck out 9 batters in 5 innings pitched. For the Floyd Broncos, juniors David Melendez and Jimmy Lovato each recorded 2 hits and an RBI, with Lovato also adding 2 runs and a triple in the loss.

Logan 11, Melrose 4 - Final: Sophomore Mason Wallin led the charge with 3 hits, 2 runs, 4 RBIs, and a home run. Senior Kaeden Stoner contributed 3 hits, 1 run, and 2 RBIs. Another sophomore, Mitchell Wall, added a home run to propel the Longhorns to victory. Stoner also struck out 10 batters in 5.1 innings pitched. For the Melrose Buffaloes, senior Mike Cardonita recorded 3 hits, 1 home run, 1 RBI, and 2 runs in the loss.

TUESDAY, APRIL 23RD

East Mountain 12, Ruidoso 8 - Final:
In an action-packed game, Aidan Madrid (2026) stood out for the East Mountain Timberwolves with 3 hits, 2 runs, and an RBI. Sophomore Charles Birdwell also made significant contributions with 3 hits, 2 RBIs, 3 runs, a double, and a triple. Junior Ryan Radosevich added to the offensive firepower with 3 hits, 3 RBIs, 2 doubles, a triple, and 1 run, while Tristen Nemitz (2024) chipped in with 2 hits, 3 RBIs, a triple, and 1 run. Luke Stoerner (2026) pitched 4 innings, recording 5 strikeouts. For the Ruidoso Warriors, Logan Sandoval (2024) led the charge with 3 hits, 3 runs, an RBI, a double, and a triple. Despite their efforts, East Mountain surged ahead with 7 runs in the top of the 7th inning to secure the victory.

Keegan Johnson (2026) contributed 2 RBIs and a hit to bolster the Huskies' offense. Nye Estrada showcased an outstanding performance, tallying 4 hits, including a home run and a triple, along with 5 runs and 6 RBIs. Diego Morales (2026) contributed with 2 hits, an RBI, a double, and 2 runs, while Ricky Armendariz (2024) added 5 RBIs, a home run, 2 hits, and a run for the Bulldogs. The Chargers from Albuquerque Academy unleashed their offensive prowess, particularly in the second inning, securing a commanding victory in the District 6-4A matchup. Senior Satish Raichur spearheaded the offense with three hits, while sophomore Ryan Williams contributed with 2 hits, 3 RBIs, and a run. Senior Mark McNaney delivered a crucial home run, adding to the Chargers' lead. Junior EJ Gallardo showcased his speed on the bases with two stolen bases. On the mound, senior Luke Laskey pitched 6 innings, tallying an impressive 7 strikeouts for the Chargers.

Artesia 13, Lovington 1 - Final: Senior Nye Estrada once again showcased his prowess for the Artesia Bulldogs, tallying 4 hits, 3 runs, 3 RBIs, a double, and a triple. Sophomore Jack Byers also contributed significantly joining the hit party, with 3 hits, 2 RBIs, a double, and a run. Daelon Pacheco, a sophomore, commanded the mound for the Bulldogs, pitching all 5 innings and recording 8 strikeouts. On the Lovington side, Mika Pando managed 2 hits, an RBI, and a double.

Goddard 8, Portales 1 - Final: Despite an early lead from the Portales Rams, the game swiftly turned in favor of Goddard, resulting in an 8-1 victory. Seniors Cinco Holloway and Jonathan Silva spearheaded the offensive effort with 2 hits each. Silva notably contributed 3 RBIs, a triple, and a run, while Holloway added an RBI and a double. Another senior, Ross Stokes, chipped in with a hit and scored twice. Senior Michael Mathison demonstrated his pitching prowess, delivering 6.2 innings with 9 strikeouts for the Goddard Rockets, showcasing a strong performance from the senior lineup in this district match.

Mayfield 13, Gadsden 7 - Final: The Trojans unleashed their offensive prowess, led by sophomore Hunter Chavez, who delivered 3 hits, 3 RBIs, and a run in the victory. Junior Jesse Vega also made significant contributions with 3 hits, 4 runs, an RBI, and 2 doubles. Ruidoso surged ahead with a strong start in the second inning, scoring 3 runs en route to a shutout win. Junior Josiah Saiz, sophomore Omar Guerrero, and freshman Carson Straton each contributed 2 hits, with Saiz and Guerrero scoring twice, while Straton added an RBI and a double to his name. Senior Gabriel Johnson commanded the mound for all 7 innings, impressively recording 8 strikeouts for Ruidoso.

St. Michael's 11, Raton 0 - Final: The Horsemen dominated their home District 2-3A matchup against Raton, clinching the victory with a commanding performance. St. Michael's surged ahead with a strong showing in the second inning, tallying 4 runs to set the tone for the game. Elijah Archuleta showcased his all-around skill, delivering an impressive performance with 3 hits, 4 RBIs, a double, and a home run, along with crossing the plate twice. Additionally, Archuleta proved his prowess on the mound, pitching 4 innings and securing 5 strikeouts. Ruben Jepson was a standout performer, tallying four hits, five RBIs, two doubles, and three runs for the Sartans. Ben Martinez also made significant contributions with three hits, three RBIs, a triple, and three runs. Jacob Madrid displayed strong pitching, recording 4 innings with 7 strikeouts to secure the victory.

2024 New Mexico High School Baseball Rankings for April 22nd: Contenders and Pretenders Revealed #NMPreps

No. 1 Rio Rancho (19-3 overall, 5-0 district)
The Rams have gone 4-0 since our last rankings maintaining a perfect record in District 1-5A play. They are currently on a 10-game win steak.

No. 2 La Cueva (19-2 overall, 6-0 district)
La Cueva has won all six of their game since we posted our week 7 rankings and keeping a stronghold on our second slot in this weeks rankings.

No. 3 Sandia (14-4 overall, 2-0 district)
The Matadors are 1-3 since week 7 dropping a double header to La Cueva and splitting with Eldorado.

No. 4 Cleveland (16-6 overall, 3-1 district)
The Storm went 2-2 beating Volcano Vista and Atrisco Heritage but fell to the top ranked teams Rio Rancho (16-4) and La Cueva (5-4)

No. 5 Rio Grande (16-4 overall, 6-0 district)
The Ravens have soared to a 5-0 record since our Week 7 ranking, firmly establishing control in District 5-5A. They secured victories against Manzano and Albuquerque High in doubleheaders, as well as overcoming Del Norte.

No. 6 Volcano Vista (17-5 overall, 2-3 district)
The Hawks dropped two games winning one since our last ranking and currently sitting at 17-5 overall and 2-3 in District 1-5A.

No. 7 Carlsbad (13-7 overall, 2-1 district)
The Cavemen have returned to action with a strong 3-1 record since our Week 7 rankings. They kicked off District 4-5A play by going 2-1 against Clovis, securing a victory in the single game before splitting the doubleheader on the road.

No. 8 Centennial (15-5 overall, 8-1 district)
The Hawks have gained momentum, boasting a 5-1 record since our Week 7 rankings and maintaining an impressive 8-1 standing in District 3-5A play. They secured victories in all three matchups against Gadsden and won two out of three against Mayfield.

No. 9 Hobbs (12-8 overall, 2-1 district)
The Eagles have posted a 4-1 record in their last five games, keeping pace with Carlsbad as both teams hold a 2-1 standing in District 4-5A play. In their recent matchups, the Eagles secured a 2-1 victory over Roswell, alongside dominant wins against Santa Fe (23-0; 13-0).

No. 10 Organ Mountain (17-3 overall, 9-0 district)
The dark horse in our rankings, the Organ Mountain Knights, boast an impressive 17-3 record on the season, having gone undefeated at 6-0 since our last ranking. They completed sweeps of Las Cruces and Alamogordo during this stretch.

No. 11 Eldorado (15-6 overall, 4-2 district)
The Eldorado Eagles have shown solid form in recent games, tallying a 5-1 record over the two-week period since our week 7 rankings. They've also posted a 4-2 start in District 2-5A play, with their lone loss coming against Sandia after splitting a doubleheader with the Matadors on April 13th.

No. 12 Las Cruces (13-7 overall, 5-4 district)
The Bulldawgs took a tumble from our third slot in the rankings, going 2-4 since our Week 7 ranking. The district play opener stung, especially with three losses to Organ Mountain, alongside a 2-1 record against Gadsden.

Possible Ranking Shakers:

These teams are potential playoff contenders currently occupying our 12-16 slots. With two weeks remaining, they have the opportunity to shake things up with a crucial win or two in the district race.
  • Clovis (9-6 overall, 0-0 district): Split their last four games with a notable victory over Carlsbad.
  • Los Lunas (13-8 overall, 6-0 district): Started District 5-5A play strong with a 6-0 record and have remained undefeated since Week 7.
  • Piedra Vista (8-9 overall, 1-1 district): Posted a 3-2 record since our last ranking, with both losses against ranked La Cueva.
  • Mayfield (9-11 overall, 4-5 district): Currently on a four-game winning streak, including a significant 5-2 victory over ranked Centennial.
Contenders or Pretenders:

Rio Rancho (No.1) and La Cueva (No. 2) are securely positioned in the top two ranking slots, but does this guarantee a smooth path to a state championship showdown? Sandia and Cleveland, along with a coin flip between Centennial and Organ Mountain, complete our NMPreps list of contenders.
