5A Thoughts
[Assumptions: No transfers or recent coaching changes]
I think it's a bit easier to break it down district-by-district, at least for myself. Front-end contenders are the usual suspects come March, but I always like to see who could find themselves in a good, competitive district.
District 1
Cibola is my pick. Maybe Cleveland finally developed enough of a solid roster to make a run. Rio Rancho graduated a lot of talent. Not too sure on Volcano Vista. Atrisco Heritage will miss their old district.
District 2
WM is the clear favorite with the talent and experience (we hope) they bring back for one final run. They are such a 3-point dependent team though and I'm curious how they'll fair against teams that guard well on the perimeter. I didn't know much about Eldo' until I read this thread so I'm putting them second. My personal pick that no one is talking about is Piedra Vista. They should be returning a big part of their roster. La Cueva I believe still has Ingram so I think they could be the wild card. Farmington brings back nearly everyone as well. They could make some noise in their district.
District 3
It's a 7-team district and I honestly only like Mayfield's outright because LC graduated plenty of experience and I'm unsure on Centennial and Onate. I like the toughness Alamogordo should be bringing back and might finish top three in the district (maybe stun us all for number one). Deming and Gadsden are the other two teams for those keeping count at home.
District 4
C-Bad is my sort-of my pick for this district especially with returning the talents of Boswell for her last year. But it could turn out being Hobbs again. Roswell and Clovis follow behind in that order.
District 5
Ya'll say Manzano is good and if that Mya Williams is as good as her numbers show then maybe they're due for a run. Sandia and Santa Fe back in the mix? Capital, Rio Grande, and ALBQ High round out that one.
Just based off what I know (and it's not very much)
1. West Mesa
2. Cibola
3. Eldorado
4. Piedra Vista
5. Hobbs
6. La Cueva
7. Alamogordo
8. Mayfield
9. Carlsbad
10. Manzano
Rankings; not seedings. Any and all insight is welcome, please.
