Tuesday
Mayfield (5-1-1) at Carlsbad (4-2). Yes, district games on September 5, due to the size of 3-6A (some of the four-team districts won’t start district play for another month). Both of these teams are off to good starts and could end up in the running for a district title.
Centennial (5-2) at Hobbs (4-1-1). Two more teams that might contend for that district title.
Gadsden (5-2) at Onate (6-1). Ditto. If you’re scoring at home, the 3-6A teams are a combined 27-12-2 to this point.
St. Pius (1-3) at Eldorado (4-1). No idea what that 1-3 record means for St. Pius, considering that all three losses came against teams from Washington, D.C. (all the scores were close).
Wednesday
Atrisco Heritage (1-2-2) at Volcano Vista (4-1). Two teams capable of beating anyone in 6A on a given night.
Capital (4-0-1) at Rio Rancho (4-3). Capital won the Roswell tournament last weekend. The bad news for the Jaguars is that they have scored only seven goals in five games; the much better news is that they have yet to give up a single goal.
Thursday
Academy tournament first round: Cleveland vs. Los Alamos, Farmington vs. Goddard, Hope Christian vs. Roswell, Academy vs. Bosque. Probably the best overall field of any weekend tournament in the state, and should have entertaining matchups all weekend.
Albuquerque High (4-1) vs. La Cueva (4-0-1). Rematch of last week’s APS tourney semifinal won by the Bears in double overtime.
Friday
Academy tournament second round.
Saturday
Academy tournament final round.
Las Cruces (3-3) at Gadsden.
Onate at Mayfield.
Carlsbad at Centennial.
Rio Rancho at Eldorado.
Hobbs (4-1-1) at Alamogordo (4-3-1).
