Player Rankings Top Wings/SF in the Class of 2018

Top Wings in the Class of 2018
Joshua J. Grine

Today, we start listing our Top Prospect Report that will lead us to our Top 50 players in each classification and eventually our NMPreps.com's Top 100 Players in New Mexico.

We are still looking for more sophomores in the group but we highlight some wings to watch rise on the chart. Some could be in the guards group as combos and others could be leftovers from the forwards who have emerged recently from the list.

Segun Oyeku 2018 5'10 W Valley HS (Albuquerque, NM)

The best place to start for the class of 2018 is Segun Oyeku. Oyeku, is one of the athletes you have to love on your team. The athletic high-flying wing can knock down the corner three or can be seen running. The stat line for Oyeku is 11.8 points per game and 4 rebounds per game.

Eric Sonnenberg 2018 6'6 F Manzano HS (Albuquerque, NM)

Likely, could be in the with the forwards and a name that we want to list to keep a close eye on. The -foot-6 forward is averaging 7.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

Jarrett Graham 2018 6'3 G Piedra Vista HS (Farmington, NM)

Graham is the shooting guard from the northwest. At, 6-foot-3 the guard is quickly growing as one of the top prospects in the state. We list him here as he could become a more dynamic prospect by his senior season. Remember he was the 40-point performer in the first half of the season.

More Wings, Forwards and Guards

Bryson Dowdy 6'3 F/PF Kirtland Central (Farmington, NM)
Arjay Ortiz 6'1 SF Robertson HS (Las Vegas, NM)

Recruiting News Sandia Running Back Commits

Jimmy Gallegos
Sandia
Running Back
Commits to New Mexico Highlands

Notes: A 3-year starter at Sandia High School. Ran for 1,422-yards as a senior and scored 17 touchdowns. He also is a top defensive back. “Jimmy actually scored a touchdown as a freshman on varsity in 2012 during the state title game against Las Cruces. He is a Matador through and through and one of the top 5 players I’ve ever coached, especially because he is a 48 minute type player. At running back he has great vision, power, has the get-away speed, and then at safety he can make the big hit and has a chance to play college football.” commented Head Sandia Coach Kevin Barker on Gallegos.

Bracket Watch: Road To The PIT for Week 10

Bracket Watch: Road To The PIT

Today, on NMPreps.com we continue to look at our predictions for the 2016 State Tournament. Plenty of games to go but several resumes have teams as 'locks' this early.

We break it down in "Autos" and "Locks". Autos are predicted district champions and locks are the at-large picks. We also have the "Bubbles", the teams with more to prove.

6A BOYS BASKETBALL

1. Cleveland (Auto; 1-6A Champ) vs 16 Sandia (At-Large)
8. Albuquerque (At-Large) vs. 9. Rio Rancho (At-Large)

5. Carlsbad (Auto; 4-6A Champ) vs 12 Las Cruces (At-Large)
4. Rio Grande (Auto; 5-6A Champ) vs 13 Volcano Vista (At-Large)

3. Cibola (At-Large; 1-6A District Runner Up) vs 14 Manzano (Auto)
6. Valley (At-Large; 5-6A Runner Up) vs 11. Hobbs (At-Large)

7. Gadsden (At-Large; District 3-6A Runner Up) vs 10. Atrisco Heritage Academy (At-Large)
2. Onate (Auto; 3-6A;Champ) vs 15 Santa Fe (At-Large)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Red - Moved Down
Green - Moved Up
Blue - Moved Up and now in the Top-8 (Home Game)
Orange - Moved IN from OUT last week

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last Four IN

13. Volcano Vista: Better of the group resume.
14. Manzano: They could climb higher, maybe should, but some might be surprised they are an auto?
15. Santa Fe: All teams from the district in this week. Why? Because I said so. Does that work? If they win 2 games they get in and they should.
16. Sandia: Maybe a district runner up gets in.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First Two OUT

17. La Cueva: Runner up from this district might not even get in.
18. Mayfield: Tough but maybe.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5A BOYS BASKETBALL

1. Roswell (Auto; DC) vs 16. Artesia (At-Large; 4D)
8. Farmington (At-Large; DRU) vs. 9. Los Lunas (At-Large; 3D)
5. Belen (Auto; DC) vs 12 Goddard (DRU)
4. Gallup (Auto; DC) vs 13 Del Norte (At-Large; 3D)
3. Capital (Auto; DC) vs 14 Lovington (At-Large; 3D)
6. Centennial (At-Large; DRU) vs. 11 Piedra Vista (At-Large; 3D)
7. Espanola Valley (At-Large; DRU) vs. 10. St. Pius X (At-Large; DRU)
2. Grants (Auto; DC) vs 15. Bernalillo (At-Large; 4D)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

16 spot: Came down to Los Alamos vs Artesia. Both fourth place district finishers. They recently played with the Dogs winning. Miyamura and Alb. Academy in the hunt. Resumes, ranking not to well however.

Belen this week at 5. If they split with Centennial on those long road games, and go 2-0 with Los Lunas they could win the district. A stretch maybe but this team is good this year.

Farmington over Los Lunas? If Los Lunas finishes third in district, their ranking is lower and has the Del Norte black mark.

Recruiting News Ruidoso Linebacker Makes Commitment

Jake Harrelson - Ruidoso - Linebacker

Commits to New Mexico Highlands

6-foot-3, 220 pound linebacker that recorded 164 total tackles during his junior season. "Jake is a great young man with a tremendous work ethic. He was an All-State Linebacker his junior season for our state championship team, he was like having another coach on the field. Smart, down hill linebacker with a nose for the ball. Unfortunately he missed his senior season with an injury, but has worked hard to to be ready to play at the next level. He will be an asset to Highland's football program at 6-foot-3, 220 pounds," Commented Head Ruidoso Football Coach Keif Johnson.

Week 10: Top Ten Games To Watch

Week 10: Ten Games To Watch This Week
Joshua J Grine

Several programs will start district play this week and continue to track the top games this season.

Pack The Gym Game: No. 19 Robertson at Mora (Tuesday)
The Robertson Cardinals are one of the best teams in 4A, Mora is the best team in 2A. This one is a scary game for Robertson as they are the favorite, ranked in the Big School Division Top-25 and Mora is from small school division basketball. No. 19 Robertson is coming off a huge emotional week with big wins over Top 4A programs Silver, Portales and St. Mike's can they continue this train ride?

Road Opportunity: No. 14 Albuquerque at No. 16 Atrisco Heritage Academy (Tuesday)
The No. 14 Albuquerque has been slumping lately and at 7-7 they could use this road game to start district to get back on track for the once number one ranked team. The No. 16 Atrisco Heritage Academy (11-5) have made believers after the slow start and this is the chance to solidify themselves as a Top-8 seed.

Bubble Action: Deming at No. 24 Las Cruces (Tuesday)
The No. 24 Las Cruces Bulldawgs (9-8) are ranked for the first time since week three after a sweep in the Albuquerque metro area over Sandia and La Cueva in what are head-to-head bubble games as well. Deming is .500 at (9-9) and if they want to make any case for the state tournament their opportunities are slim, this game is that chance.

Scary Game: No. 2 Onate at No. 12 Gadsden (Tuesday)
We proclaimed that No. 2 Onate (15-3) is in a different tier with No. 1 Cleveland. Well, tonight is one of the last chances the Knights could lose, on the road at No. 12 Gadsden (11-6) the next best team in this district. Gadsden is coming off a solid week with a win over Valley, ranked 5 last week and a close game with Cibola makes this one a scary game for Onate.

Upset Alert - Game of the Night: No. 3 Cibola at No. 22 Volcano Vista (Tuesday)
The No. 3 Cibola Cougars are coming off a close call to No. 12 Gadsden. No. 22 Volcano Vista earned a win over a ranked Hobbs team last week. To make it that much more excited is that its a rivalry game. You can be sure to have a well attended, energy filled game.

Grine Picks For Tuesday

Mora over Robertson
Atrisco over Albuquerque
Cibola over Volcano Vista
Onate over Gadsden
Las Cruces over Deming

Keep An Eye On These Marquee Games

Centennial at Los Lunas
Rio Rancho at Santa Fe
Hobbs at Roswell

Mr. Basketball Candidates For Tuesday To Watch Out For

Gabe Bump, Albuquerque - Bump has lost some steam with limited info on him and the fact the Bulldogs are slumping. Here is the chance to jump back in the conversation.

Johnny McCants, Onate - He puts up consistently big numbers and sometimes it goes under the radar because he continues to play well. Here is a chance to put him the conversation of top 3 finalist. Daniel Amador of Roswell is up there, McCants to engrave himself there as well.

David Cormier, Volcano Vista - We don't hear much about him, until recently, and if they get another upset win here then we can place him back into consideration. Averaging around a double-double the junior has the chance to make noise.
