Gold Cup...so far

Well, it hasnt been a great tournament.

The US & Mex have had mixed perfromances. They can still regroup and make some roster changes after the group stage...maybe send Jozy back to Toronto??? Mexico needs....needs...something. This is supposed to be their "A" group...dont know who to call up.

Costa Rica & Canada have failed to impress. I would say that Jamaica has been the team of the tournament so far. They play all out attacking football, sometimes its too crazy but they are a fun team to watch when the other teams put 9 or 10 behind the ball and look for draws.

I hope the overall quality improves in the knock out round or this would be a good piece of evidence to deny CONCACAF the additional World Cup spot.

Eastern New Mexico Camp at Cleveland

Monday, July 13th at Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, the Eastern New Mexico Greyhound Football Staff held a football camp that featured more than 65 athletes. Here is a recap of the top athletes I saw at the event.

Eastern New Mexico Offers 5 Prospects

1710920.jpg

Pictured is Clovis Quarterback Daulton Hatley

The Greyhounds offered Clovis Quarterback Daulton Hatley. The 6-foot-1, 185 pound quarterback had a ton of zip on the football and has improved greatly from the 2014 season. Hately who threw for 1,200-yards last year now holds offers from University of Central Oklahoma, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, and now Eastern New Mexico. Besides throwing well, Hately ran an impressive 4.60 40-time and had a broad jump of 9-foot-3 inches.

The Greyhounds also extended an offer to West Mesa Kicker Sabino Morales. The 5-foot-10, 175 pound kicker was booting kicks with ease from 40-yards out. Speaking with West Mesa Head Coach Ron McMath at the event, he told me Morales can hit 50-yards or deeper.

Eldorado duo Noah Sweitzer and Isaiah Martinez were also offered by Eastern New Mexico today.
Sweitzer is a 6-foot-1, 210 pound running back that holds offers from Western Colorado, Adams State, Highlands, and now Eastern. Martinez at 6-foot-0, 185 is a testing champ. He jumped an incredible 10-foot-2 inch broad jump and ran a excellent 40-time as well and caught nearly everything thrown his way, Martinez holds offers from Western Colorado, Adams State, and now Eastern New Mexico.

Update: I have also been informed that Eastern New Mexico offered Caleb Ortiz out of Estancia. He is their 6-foot-4, 215 pound RB/DE that ran for over 800-yards as a junior last year.

Others Who Impressed
1710943.jpg

Pictured is 6-foot-4, 285 pound tackle Daimon Altamirano out of Cleveland High School

Daimon Altamirano of Cleveland really impressed as one of the better offensive linemen. At 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds, he looked and played the part of a top linemen and even ran well.

Idan Urrutia out of West Mesa is a 6-foot-1, 210 pound linebacker/running back/tight end that repped with the running backs on the day and is just an impressive athlete, likely West Mesa's top player overall.

Dominic Fisher is another player out of West Mesa who impressed during receiver drills. He is a 6-foot1, 175 pound class of 2017 prospect.

Valley had their two monster linemen in attendance in 6-foot-2, 310 pound David Montano and 6-foot-3, 275 pound Derek Jenkins. The duo

Estancia had two prospects who impressed us today in Caleb Ortiz their 255 pound linemen and also their 6-foot-4, 215 pound fullback Caleb Ortiz. Ortiz had a board jump of 8-foot-3 inches.

Albuquerque High had in attendance 6-foot-4, 280 pound Raymond Cole and Defensive Back Jonathan Martinez who blazed a 40-time time of 4.56.

Sandia had 5-foot-8, 185 pound running back Jimmy Gallegos and 6-foot-4, 285 pound offensive linemen Isaiah Lowery, and we think it was 6-foot-3, 215 pound Ben Bertram show up.

From Volcano Vista: Josh Williams at quarterback, Frank Garcia and Nick Mourning, two offensive linemen to keep tabs on.

From Del Norte: 6-foot-0, 28 pound Avery See at running back ran a 4.7 40-time, 250 pound offensive linemen Gabe DeSoto looked great and watch for receiver Mister McGriff at 5-foot-10, 160 pounds who ran a 4.5 40-time.

From Los Lunas 6-foot-3, 185 pound Trevor Brohard looked impressive.

Miyamura Returns Enough Talent To Win District 1-5A

26. Miyamura
One of the biggest surprises of the 2014 season was Miyamura going 9-1 in the regular season. Wins against Moriarty, Montezuma-Cortez CO, Grants, Academy, St. Pius X, Piedra Vista, and Farmington put them at a near perfect season before their one-point overtime loss to Aztec. In the playoffs they beat Los Lunas 27-2 before falling to Centennial 69-20. Miyamura could actually be better in 2015 returning 1,000-yard running back AJ Starkovich who is a 6-foot-0, 175 pound bruiser of a back to bring down. They return a few good sized linemen and also should return with confidence knowing just how far they reached last season.

29. Piedra Vista
The Panthers won 7 games during the regular season which was impressive considering how young they were roster wise. They finally graduate quarterback Isaiah Valdez, but return some game breakers like Elijah Gamboa and also have some big linemen: Jose Dominguez is listed at 5-foot-10, 350 pounds, Isiah Billy is 6-foot-0, 265, Doug Frost is 6-foot-0, 245 pounds, Jake Terry is 5-foot-10, 245 pounds. They reached the playoffs last year beating Valencia in the first round 44-21. Piedra Vista has the talent to return in the playoffs in 2015.

31. Farmington
The headline over the season was Gary Bradley is out in Farmington after taking the Head Coaching position in Carlsbad. In steps Jeff Dalton who has been the defensive coordinator for several years. Farmington won 6 games last season before losing to Belen in the quarterfinals 47-9. Returning for Farmington in 2015 is Donovan Gonzalez, Returning Quarterback Diego Elebario, 6-foot-2, 170 Jeb Pinckley, and 175 pound Matt Tucson at running back.

34. Aztec
The Tigers had their best year yet under Head Coach Matthew Steinfeldt going 8-3 and winning the District 1-5A title beating Miyamura in a thriller 36-35 in overtime. In the playoffs they were beaten by Goddard 42-14 in the quarterfinal round. Step back this year talent wise? Maybe so as the Tigers graduate three year starting quarterback Marcus Crawford who threw for 2,670-yards and 37 touchdowns last year, they also graduate Josh Harris who caught for 1,548-yards and 27 touchdowns. Returning: Watch for Sophomore to be Cody Smith to take over at quarterback, Dylan Sutherland returns who caught for 326-yards last year, they also return Taylor Elwood who lead the team in tackles with 105.

100. Gallup
The Gallup Bengals have a record of 2-18 over the last two years, last year the program likely hit their bottom point going 0-10 on the season. Taking over at Head Coach for the Bengals is Joshua Olsen.

Can Clayton Three-Peat As District Champs With New Coach
By Kyle Henderson of NMPreps.com

Rankings based off NMPreps.com Preseason Top 100

50. Clayton
For the last two years Clayton has reached the state title game in Class 3A. The bad news is that Head Coach Collin Justiss resigned and took over the Valencia Opening. In steps Dustin Tippitt who inherits a very good roster. Carson Vandiver, Justin Taylor, Jose Zamora, Tomas Sanchez, Tucker Poling and freshman to be Kobe Leal are going to keep Clayton in the mix in 2015.

61. Santa Rosa
The Lions had a rare losing season in 2014 gong 5-7 on the year. After beating Navajo Prep in the 1st round of the playoffs, the Lions were trounced by Clayton 52-0 in the quarterfinals. Returning is 234 pound Matt Chavez up front, but other than that it's tough to tell who will step up. Then again, it's Santa Rosa Football.

75. Raton
The 2015 season will mark the 2nd season under Head Coach Tory Giacomo at Raton. The Tigers are a combined 6-15 over the last two years missing the playoffs in 2014. The overall numbers at Raton seem to be very low. Returning is Dakota Martinez at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds as well as TJ Shell at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds.

79. Tucumcari
Believe it or not, Tucumcari went 0-10 during the 2014 being outscored 465-146. The good news is that Tucumcari was pretty young last year and return some good talent including Tyler Ferguson who is returning at quarterback.

Centennial's Cesar Molina Is Top 60 Player

Centennial is a young program, but has a loaded roster entering the 2015/2016 season. One major reason they are a preseason 5A Final Four Favorite is because they return Cesar Molina who is one of the top overall guards in New Mexico. Today we highlight Molina as one of the top players in New Mexico as we continue to rank the top 60 prospects.
