Freeman (Rating) Rankings??

Someone is going to have to explain to me how the MaxPreps rankings work.

Currently in the state according to MaxPreps:
1. Farmington 19-1
2. Volcano Vista 17-0
3. Gallup 15-2
4. Hobbs 14-7
5. La Cueva 15-4

Farmington has a win over Hobbs and Gallup
La Cueva beat Farmington
Volcano beat La Cueva 3X
Hobbs has beaten NOBODY in the top 10 in the state and has losses to BOTH Gallup and Farmington

So I have questions:
How in the world is Volcano Vista not # 1?
How is La Cueva not # 2
How is Hobbs still ranked so high with no quality wins? They have a strong strength of schedule, but they haven't beaten any of the good teams they have played.

This all makes no sense to me.

LAST FOUR
13. Artesia (At-Large)
14. Lovington (At-Large)
15. Los Alamos (At-Large)
16. Miyamura (Auto)
Scoop: Miyamura is a tricky one as the district leader for district 1-4A. They are far up in the rating that they could be a DC as a 16-seed. Los Alamos has a chance to go higher but shake up in district 4 and 6 pushed them up.

Cibola1-37-12Open

Today (2/2/22): Volcano Vista and Atrisco Heritage go head-to-head for the lead in this district. Game will take place at AHA. Canceled will be rescheduled.

Scoop: The case of A over B, B over C, C over A. Cleveland beat Rio Rancho last night in week 11 (2/1/22); however, they did have the loss to Cibola. Rio Rancho has the win over Cibola. The back half of district play will get intriguing and could shake up the state tournament bracket. Cibola can move to soft lock with another district win.

Scoop: Sandia and Eldorado will fight for the 2-seed in the district tournament. Farmington has a shiny 17-wins but work left to do after going 2-3 since joining district play.

Deming2-68-11Closed
Gadsden0-81-20Closed

Scoop: Las Cruces is a lock and it's a lock for a 1 or 2 seed for the Dawgs. Mayfield, Organ Mountain, Centennial, and Alamogordo are now in a tango for the 2-seed. With this district being a 2/3 bid league the final two weeks are very important. Alamogordo joined the conversation with a 64-60 win over Mayfield this week (2/1/22).

District 4
TEAMDISTRICTOVERALLBID STATUS
Hobbs2-020-2Lock
Carlsbad2-019-3Lock
Roswell0-26-16Closed
Clovis0-23-19Closed

Scoop: We have the two teams that will make the post season in Hobbs and Carlsbad. Both can be in the top-10 as well with a possibility of being a top-8 which would mean hosting two games at state.

Scoop: An interesting district with the closed teams being closed this week but with the next two weeks we will either find a key for a team like Capital or a lock smith for Rio Grande and Manzano if they can find an upset over one of the top two.

Tax Question

I have a question since we are entering tax season. This is my 2nd year teaching and with last year being mostly remote I didn’t really spend much on supplies.

This year I have spent on supplies. What am I allowed to claim? Is there only a certain amount I can claim? I kept every receipt.

Thought this would possibly be a good place to ask due to the number of veteran teachers/coaches on the boards. Maybe I’ll get lucky with an accountant or tax specialist being a poster lol. Thank you in advance.

Week 10: What to Watch This Week?

THURSDAY DAILY DIMES

Must-See:
Atrisco Heritage (15-2, 2-0) at La Cueva (14-2, 3-0). This will be the third round (and the last) between the two schools. This rare non-district contest during district play features to teams favored to reach the Final Four this season. The AHA Jaguars beat La Cueva earlier in January at the Metro Championships will look to get the criteria point over the Bears. AHA has a solid trio of Javier Mendoza (2022), Latavious Morris (2025), and Colby Wade (2022). La Cueva back on the court after beating Sandia last night will look to their trio of Exodus Ayers (2023), Gabe Trujillo (2022) and Cedarious Yates (2023). Prediction: La Cueva by 1

Last Four IN: Cibola (6-11, 0-2) at Cleveland (10-10, 0-2); Eldorado (8-9, 2-1) at West Mesa (7-9, 1-2). Cibola and West Mesa are fighting for a spot in the Last Four (13-16) at the 2022 State Tournament. Cleveland and Eldorado are on the fringe of the Last Four to the Back Four (9-12) teams. Cleveland is looking to shake 7-straight losses. Cibola is also riding a 3-game losing streak heading into the contest but they have some nice pieces including 6-foot-7 Brady Arrenius (2022). Predictions: Cleveland by 10, Eldorado by 7.

Shot at the Top: Rio Rancho (12-6, 1-1) at Volcano Vista (18-0, 2-0). Volcano Vista won 73-57 earlier this month during the Metro Championships. Tonight, we should see a more competitive game but we won't call upset. Keagan Caton (RRHS/2022) has played well and will guide the Rams in this one. Volcano Vista by 6

Small School Hoops: Estancia (11-4, 1-1) at Menaul (11-3, 3-0): The first round between these two schools. Estancia looks to get hot after cooling down recently from their hot start. Menaul led behind Maximus Mkpa (2022), 13.6 ppg, are looking for a signature win. Prediction: Estancia by 5

TUESDAY'S DAILY DIMES

Bubble Buster:
Farmington Scorpions (16-2, 1-1) at Eldorado Eagles (7-9, 1-1). Not so much a buster game for the Scorpions but a loss could push them further into the 13-16 range. The Eldorado Eagles are on a roller coaster right now of wins and losses - they've yet to win back-to-back games. This one features two prospects that have been mentioned throughout the season in Caileb Parham (2023/Eldorado HS) and Cody Vassar-Steen (2024/Farmington HS). Prediction: Eldorado 61, Farmington 57.

4A Showdown: Del Norte Knights (8-9, 2-0) at Valley Vikings (9-7, 1-0). The winner of this contest will become the district leader and could start the case for a top-four bid at the state tournament. After three tough losses the Vikings got back on the winning side to end last week. Del Norte is looking to extend their three game winning streak into this contest. Also, from this district keep an eye on the Bernalillo Spartans (9-9, 0-1) playing at Albuquerque Academy (8-5, 1-1). Prediction: Valley 42, Del Norte 40.

Musical Chairs in 3A: West Las Vegas (8-6) at Robertson (9-5); Navajo Prep (6-6) at Crownpoint (11-6); Raton (10-3) at Santa Fe Prep (9-6); Santa Fe Indian (7-5) at St. Michael's (2-12). Who wants to be number one in 3A basketball? There is not a clear cut favorite to win it all in this classification and each week we have a shift in the rankings. Predictions: Robertson, Crownpoint, Raton, St. Mikes

New Mexico High School Football Preseason Team Rankings for 2022

NMPreps will take a look at each team in New Mexico high school football leading up to the 2022 season. #nmpreps

ALBUQUERQUE BULLDOGS

City: Albuquerque, NM
2021 Record: 2-8 overall, 0-5 district
2021 Playoffs: Missed
Head Coach: Timothy Johnson
NMPreps 6A Preseason Rank: #17 (of 21)
NMPreps Top-40 Preseason Rank: Unranked (of 121)

Scoop: The Bulldogs enter the 2022 season riding a 7-game losing streak and will look to a rebuild season. Initially when our 2022 preseason rankings were being vote on the Bulldogs still had one of the top prospects from the 2024 class in Andres Aguirre. The running back has since transferred to power Rio Rancho-Cleveland High School. The Bulldogs will also have to do without D-1 player Landon Williams. The defensive end will play at the University of New Mexico. Yes, the Bulldogs finished the season losing the final seven games however, they played well as they have under head coach Timothy Johnson and nearly upset the likes of Clovis, Santa Fe and Eldorado.

Players: The Bulldogs lose a lot from last season. The go-to player and experience will be in the form of ATH Carlos Sisneros (2024). Sisneros finished the season with over 200 all purpose yards on a senior laden team. Senior Andrew Roybal (2023) also returns for the Bulldogs in 2022. The 6-1 senior to-be has the opportunity to be one of the top WR's in the district this coming season.

Early Prediction: 1-9 overall. Depending the schedule, the Bulldogs could be fighting to stay out of the classification cellar. Hopefully, they will have a schedule conducive to their experience and level of play for the coming season.
