NMAA has posted the 3-year avg. numbers for 2013-15

Here's a LINK to the numbers.

As predicted, Centennial is now in the top 24, making the Hawks a 6A school with a 3-year average of 1,459.

  • Deming and Alamogordo, which were rumored to be moving down to 5A are now No. 24 and No. 26, respectively. Deming's avg. attendance is 1,404. Alamo's is also 1,404 (So is Farmington).

If Valley elects to play up, that would bump Deming, Farmington and Alamo all down to No. 25 and out of 6A.

  • Piedra Vista is now No. 23, so they're slated to move up to 6A along with Centennial. This is where the appeals start getting interesting.

At the bottom end of 5A, Bloomfield and Kirtland Central are No. 47 and 48, so they would slide into District 1-5A easily to replace Piedra Vista. Lovington and Grants are the smallest public 5A schools at 875 each. St. Pius and Academy are 713 amd 659, respectively, also at he bottom of 5A.

  • Portales is the largest 4A school at 797 followed by Moriarty, which at 785, moves down along with Bernalillo, which is now at 769.
  • Thoreau and Navajo Prep are 23 and 24 in 4A at 345, and 335, respectively.
Cottonwood Classical Prep is now the largest 3A school at 295 followed by Zuni (291) and Laguna-Acoma 286.

Cool weather tourney?

Not exactly Lambeau Field, but it should be much cooler for the tournament, especially for the morning games. From the Albuquerque weather forecast:

"Mostly sunny during the day Thursday, with a high temperature of 54 and a slight chance of showers. Skies will clear up Thursday night, and the temperature is expected to drop as low as the mid-20s. Friday is expected to be sunny, with a high of 56 and a low in the high 20s, and weekend weather is looking to be sunny with highs in the mid-50s and lows hovering around the freezing mark."

The 11th Week

Hard to believe, but we are entering the 11th week of the New Mexico High School Football Season. For me personally, watching the coaches & athletes put in nearly year-round work to get to this pivotal moment is very impressive and to me it never gets old.

I have a few opening week questions for you

1. In general, whether it's been a program, 1st year coach, individual player, what has been a surprise this year?

2. What will you remember from the 2015 regular season?

3. Pound for pound, who has been the best NM Prep Team within the last 5-years?

4. How could New Mexico HS Football Improve?

5. What question do you have?

Preseason Rankings: No. 50 Taos Tigers

The 2015-2016 season has officially started and today we highlight one of the top 4A basketball programs in the Taos Tigers.

More: Preseason Rankings Home | Rankings 72-51 | Preseason Preview Page

The Taos Tigers are coming off one of their most successful campaigns with a 18-12, 4-2 season, highlighted by a 2015 Final Four.

Overview: The Tigers are better when they put up points. They scored 1683 (56.1) points on the season and most games that were scored in the 60's or 70's they came out with a "W" with the exception of a few. The last three losses that they suffered they were held under 50 points. This team is well coached and head coach Daniel Trujillo is ranked in the NMPreps.com's Top 25 head coaches in New Mexico to watch in 2015-2016.

Last Season
Record: 18-12, 4-2
Post Season: Final Four, lost to West Las Vegas
Points per game: 56.1 (1683)
Points against: 53.2 (1598)

Realistic Prediction: Right now we have them 9th in 4A hoops and it shouldn't be a surprise if they are again playing for a 2-4A title. The District will be one of the best in 4A this season and could be a 4 team bid league.

District Champ: 25%
Playoff Team: Yes
Elite Eight: 75% Yes
Final Four: 30%
Title Game: 10%

Returning Players: The Tigers will replace plenty of depth from last season, graduating 8-players. With only 5-players coming back this season could be one in which they take a small step back in a rebuilding way.
