NMPreps.com's Week 7 Players and Team of the Week

Aiden Cserhat (Taos/Forward/Class of 2016) Aiden Cserhat has been on the radar for a few years now and he is taking his senior season way beyond any expectations people had of him. On Monday, Cserhat scored a very impressive 10 goals against Bernalillo and assisted the two other goals to give the Tigers a 12-2 victory over the Spartans. With an average of 3.2 goals a game, Cserhat has already scored 35 goals in 11 games and has 18 assists on the season. Watch for Cserhat is make some noise in his district.

Genevieve Telles (Alamogordo/Forward/Class of 2016) With only two losses so far, the Alamogordo girls soccer team is off to a nice start with the help of Senior Forward Genevieve Telles. She's knocked in 16 goals this season and has near a dozen assists. Tuesday, Alamogordo took on a strong Carlsbad side and only one goal was scored. Telles had the game winner to get past the Carlsbad keeper to give the Tigers their 12th win on the season.

Socorro Girls (14-0-1) The Socorro Girls team marches on without any losses so far this season. This week they knocked in 7 goals against both Rehoboth and Ruidoso. They have mercy ruled a team 3 times this season and their biggest victory came against Valencia where they defeated the Jaguars 3-2. The Warriors should easily win their district, which they kick off this week against Silver.

Hounds kick that Javalina *** on Homecoming

Cass and ENMU Backfield Run Rampant Over Javelinas in 56-31 Homecoming Win
  • Saturday, October 3, 2015

PORTALES, N.M. — Despite numerous weather delays and lightning warnings, the last homecoming game at Blackwater Draw was a memorable one as the Gridiron Greyhounds ran all over Texas A&M University-Kingsville Saturday for a 56-31 win.

The Eastern New Mexico University football team (3-2, 1-2 Lone Star Conference) took an early 14 point lead only five minutes into the game. Capitalizing off a six play, 53-yard, one minute and thirty second opening drive, the Greyhounds followed up with an Elliot Peters 74-yard interception return for a touchdown.

ENMU had its best night running the ball, recording a season high 396-yards on the ground.Led by Kamal Cass with 164 yards and four touchdowns, the Greyhounds had four other rushers with 40 plus yards, including D'Maujeric Tucker with 86.

The performance was Cass' first 100-yard game of his career.Going into the game the standout back had four touchdowns total, doubling his season total too eight on the year with his performance.

Quarterback Jeremy Buurma went 8-for-10 on the night with 162 yards in the air and one touchdown pass to Adrian Horton.Horton finished with four receptions for 84 yards in the game.

Another career first game only minutes into the game when Peters snagged an errant pass for a 74-yard touchdown return. Not only was it his first interception of his career, but longest interception return for a touchdown on the season for the Greyhounds.

Fe'ao Vunipola finished the game with 12 total tackles, seven of which were unassisted.Kolter West also came up with an interception, picking off the Javelina's (1-4, 0-2 LSC) back up quarter back in the fourth off a tipped pass.

The game was delayed almost an hour from the start, with lightning storms setting kickoff to 4:00 p.m.After three full quarters of football, six minutes into the fourth quarter with the Hounds leading by a score of 49-31, the game was delayed again due to weather.

Over an hour later play resumed, this time with the addition of a downpour. The greyhounds stayed ready though, coming out and grabbing an interception at midfield to set up what would be the last scoring drive of the night, punching the ball in with slightly over one minute left to play.

The win was ENMU's fourth straight over Kingsville, setting the Hounds up nicely heading into their matchup against Bacone College Oct. 10.The team will hit the road for Bacone, travelling to Muskogee, Okla., before heading to Stephenville, Texas, for their next LSC opponent, Tarleton State University, the following weekend.
