Tuesday, January 30th
District Champion on the line: Albuquerque (12-6, 3-1) at Atrisco Heritage (16-2, 4-0). Albuquerque is currently tied for second at 3-1 with Valley High School. The meaning to this game is big. A loss here, and if Valley beats Highland (heavy favorite) the Bulldogs will drop to third and likely out of the top-8. Still early implications. Also, a win by Albuquerque could force a three-way tie for first.
In 5A, Artesia (14-6, 1-0) travels to No. 2 ranked Roswell (16-5, 1-0) for a chance at the 4-5A title. Gallup (13-7) has jumped in the rankings and into a groove as they face previous DC 1-5A favorite Kirtland Central (12-8).
4A hoops has West Las Vegas (12-9, 3-0) looking to maintain control of 2-4A with a win over St. Michael's (9-12, 2-1). The Dons recently moved up in the rankings with a win over Taos.
Surprisingly Intrigued: Eldorado (16-2, 4-0) at Santa Fe (10-10, 2-2). Santa Fe hosts the number two ranked team in the state of New Mexico. You should expect a big crowd for the Demons and an upset will be a surprise but not out of question.
Bubble Busters: Rio Grande needs to upset West Mesa, Carlsbad needs to win over Centennial and Clovis needs an upset over La Cueva. Rio Grande, Carlsbad and Clovis are all on the bubble. A signature win is needed. Carlsbad is the favorite and earned their signature win last week but they can't afford a slip up against 6A cellar Centennial.
In 5A, Miyamura (11-9) helped their cause last week and will need to take care of business over a slumping Aztec (9-9). Grants (9-10) could use a huge boost if they can upset Belen (15-6). The loss won't bust but a win could nearly secure the strength.
Rapid Fire
East Mountain (10-9) at Sandia Prep (8-12). This one has huge seed implications.
Goddard (11-10) at Lovington (10-11). Maintain their eyes on the top-10 or maybe chance at top-8.
Portales (11-8) at Hope Christian (13-7). The Rams have a chance for spoiler, Hope the opportunity to prove nothing has changed.
Ruidoso (12-8) at Moriarty (14-6). The Warriors the chance to climb into the top-8. Moriarty looking to maintain top-4/5.
