NMPreps.com Pre-season 6A Rankings

The 2016/2017 New Mexico High School basketball season is here and today we release our first look at the NMPreps.com pre-season rankings. The rankings could change closer to the first week of games but right now this is what we know heading into the season

Overview

The reigning state champions - the Rio Rancho Rams - welcome back the NMPreps.com New Mexico Mr. Basketball along with the surround cast members, creating one of the deepest and most talented rosters for 2016/2017. Clay Patterson, Mr. Basketball, returns with backcourt mate Juan Hurt as they look to be the hands down favorite for next season.

Who is number two? You have to like the junior tag team of Anthony Chavez and Segun Oyekun. Chavez is next level talent, a fearless guard that plays composed - as you seen all of last season. At three we like the Cibola Cougars who return their own point guard in Desmond Carpenter a Top-10 player this coming season who has since been reported to have committed to New Mexico Highlands University.

Rounding out the Top-5 we have the Albuquerque High Bulldogs, behind division one player Marlon Cunninghman (UNM) at four and Cleveland who has a new head coach falling in-line at five. Cleveland hired longtime Rio Grande head coach Sean Jimenez as their second head coach in program history.

Volcano Vista returns top player David Cormier a 6-6 wing that is one of the most udnerrated players in the state. Hobbs has a key addition this summer in Vince Taylor from Sweden who could follow the footsteps of his father and brother bringing titles to Hobbs.

Justin Solomon

Back in surgery today in Chicago. Found a tumor in his bladder. They are gonna get out as much as they can and get it tested. Kid has been through a ton. We will continue our Throw Cancer a Curve camp with Swihart in January for Justin. If any of you want to help or donate just let me know.

Positive thoughts or prayers today...which ever you do they will help.

Let's look at Las Cruces Bulldawg's situation. They have secured a District Title, they are an unquestionable Top 3 team! Heck it could be argued #2 should Cleveland lose!

Would you play your starters the entire game & risk injury for a game that has no significance or impact on a 1st round bye? Or would you go out and play like you haven't locked up a District Title & a Top 3 Seed?

Why is NM soccer terrible outside of Albuquerque?

Hey, see how I used a provocative and misleading title to draw clicks? You can really learn a thing or two from the other boards on this site.

Seriously, the ABQ Journal had a thoughtful article today (https://www.abqjournal.com/876934/metro-girls-soccer-teams-have-dominated-state.html) about how metro teams have dominated HS soccer in New Mexico, especially on the girls side. Some good insights from coaches both in ABQ and elsewhere around the state.
