Another short week of hoops before the new year. However, it will feature three top regular season tournaments. The main one of course is the Hobbs Holiday Tournament. A few top ranked teams from 6A in Cleveland (No. 3 NMPreps.com Top 16), Eldorado (No. 4) and Hobbs (No. 15). It also features Kirtland Central from 5A basketball, ranked No. 6.

Likely, the top 5A bracket each season is the Poe Corn Invite held at both Roswell high schools - Roswell and Goddard. Six of the eight teams in the field are currently ranked in the NMPreps.com Top-16. No. 5 Los Alamos, No. 8 Roswell, No. 9 Gallup, and No. 10 Artesia all inside the top-10. Goddard (No. 14) and Lovington (No. 15) round the field. Bloomfield and Farmington in the field representing the northwest region (1-5A).

A must-see opening round game is the No. 1 Las Cruces Bulldawgs squaring off with the No. 7 Albuquerque High Bulldogs at the Valencia County Holiday Tournament. Los Lunas (No. 3 NMPreps.com 5A Top16) is the other top level team. All three on the top half of the bracket. Alamogordo (No. 16) and host Valencia (No. 13) are newly ranked this week after both earned big wins.

Brandon Back - La Cueva High School - Guided the Bears to an 11-2 season and played in the 6A State Championship

Chad Adcox - Manzano High School - Led the Monarchs to their first State Championship. 13-0 record.

Charles Gleghorn - Hobbs High School - Guided the Eagles to a 9-3 season reaching the 6A quarterfinals and 7-game improvement from the previous season.

David Ramirez - Animas - A 9-0 record and 6-man State Championship.

Dickie Roybal - Melrose High School - 11-0 this season and completed a 4-peat for the 8-man state championship. Roybal has 8 total State Championships.

Greg Henington - Belen High School - The Eagles went 12-1 on the season and reached the 5A State Championship game.

Ken Stevens - Eunice High School - Led the Cardinals to a 13-0 season and the 3A State Championship.

Kief Johnson - Ruidoso High School - After a 10-3 season Johnson led the Warriors to the 2017 4A State Championship, his second at the school.

Rex Henderson - Artesia High School - Henderson led the Artesia Bulldogs to the 2017 State Championship and an 11-2 overall record.
