Week 2 Questions To Answer

1. Who was the most opposing player you watched last Friday Night in person?
2. 13 teams shutout in week 1 - Why?
3. District 1-6A outscored opponents 169-49 in week 1, Toughest District in New Mexico?
4. Which team are you expecting to have a bounce back week?
5. Be honest: who has the ugliest jersey's this year? Haha

Bonus

Which question do you have for me if any, put me on the spot?

Refs

As I posted in a previous thread about the shortage of referee's in NM, it's hard to criticize the people that step up to do games, but I have to say I haven't seen soooo many flags in games on a weekend. Not sour grapes as the team I pull for won, but tons of flags in the RR/Valley, LC/Atrisco, and Mayfield/Hobbs games. Just watching the West Mesa/Highland game on Proview and a few very questionable flags. Seems to me referees are throwing way to many flags for ticky-tack stuff!?

Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education

This statement has just been issued by the APS Board of Education

From KRQE:
  • It all surrounds the hiring of the now former deputy superintendent who is facing child sex assault charges. A background check was never complete for the deputy superintendent. Current Superindent Luis Valentino claims he was unaware of this, but an HR head says she raised the issues six times in emails.
  • Last Friday, it was revealed that Valentino had hired a man charged with six felony counts of sexual assault on a child, stemming from a 2013 Colorado arrest.
*******

Dr. Don Duran, president of the Albuquerque Public School Board of Education, released the following statement on Sunday, Aug. 23:

"The Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education had a very frank discussion with Superintendent Luis Valentino this evening.

After a thorough and rigorous discussion of the facts as we know them tonight, we have scheduled a special Board of Education meeting for 7 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, for further discussion and action.

Let me be clear that this has been a painful experience for the Board, Superintendent Valentino and the community. This board takes our responsibility seriously, as well as our commitment to our constituents.

We know that public trust is an issue for us now, and we will do everything we can to regain the public trust and confidence. We apologize for putting the community through this ordeal.

You can rest assured that tomorrow schools will open, teachers will provide quality instruction to all students, and student safety, security and success will continue to be our focus."

Week Two Review and Players of the Week

Boys Player of the week:

Andrea Seazzu (Albuquerque/Class of 2016/Goalkeeper)
Getting three clean sheets in three games isn’t always an easy task in high school soccer; let alone earning a clean sheet against the defending 6A state champions. However, that is exactly what Andrea Seazzu of Albuquerque High has done. Seazzu has proven once again why he is a top goal keeper in the state, and he isn’t done yet.

Girls Player of the week:

Hannah Kelley (Farmington/Class of 2016/Forward) The Farmington girls soccer team holds an undefeated record two weeks into the season and Senior Hannah Kelley is a big key to the Scorpions success. She’s knocked in over 70 goals in her career and averages a goal a game. Kelley will only get stronger as she plays out her final year as a Scorpion.

Week 2 Recap:
There were several upsets this week that made the second week of the 2015 season enjoyable. Eldorado defeated the number 1 seed Cibola in overtime in a Metro Championship match up. The metro tournament brought in more fun as the Albuquerque Bulldogs knocked down defending state champion, Volcano Vista. La Cueva proved their dominance as they earned a win over a very promising Atrisco Heritage side. Capital, Sandia, Academy, Clovis, Los Alamos, St. Pius, Mayfield and Taos round out the remaining undefeated teams. That number will be smaller by the end of next week. Both Centennial boys and girls took the trophies home from the Las Cruces tournament with impressive championship match wins. The St. Pius girls remain undefeated as they hammered down on Sandia Prep. On the metro tournament girls side, Volcano Vista upset defending state champions La Cueva, as Eldorado, Cibola, Academy and Sandia survive the pool play portion of the tournament without a loss. Goddard and Farmington girls both held their own this week to add to the undefeated list, as did Carlsbad, Hobbs, Socorro, St. Mikes and Taos. It’s on to week 3 as more exciting soccer will be played around the state.

They will take on unranked Albuquerque High who are coming off a 12-7 season and looking to making strides. Ebony Baty will lead the charge for the Lady Bulldogs.

No. 5 Volcano Vista (0-0) vs. Highland (0-0): Coming into the contest as heavy favorites in a match that should last three games. The Hawks welcome back a wealth of talent led behind Jordan Breding, a player of the year candidate. The Hawks are a favorite to contend for the title and will look to start off hot.

5A Game To Watch No. 6 St. Pius X (0-0) v. No. 14 Los Alamos (0-0): Starting the season off with a huge Top-25 game is the square off between No. 6 St. Pius X and No. 14 Los Alamos.
